Part-Time Custodian at Penobscot Bay YMCA – Rockport, Maine

We are currently hiring part-time team members for evening and weekend shifts at our Rockport location.

What You'll Do:

Working behind the scenes, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our facilities are clean, safe, and ready for our members, guests, and teammates each day.

This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in their work.

• Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas including fitness spaces, locker rooms, and common areas
• Perform routine cleaning such as mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal
• Sanitize high-touch surfaces and restrooms
• Restock supplies including soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively
• Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns
• Support facility setup and seasonal needs such as snow removal
• Ensure the building is secure at the end of your shift

• Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred, but not required

• Ability to work independently and follow instructions

• Strong attention to detail and reliability

• Comfort working in a variety of environments, including locker rooms and pool areas

• Willingness to learn and take pride in your work

• Ensures the YMCA facility is clean, safe, and welcoming by completing all duties outlined on the daily schedule and maintaining assigned areas and equipment

• Performs cleaning tasks including wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, locker room cleaning and power washing, vacuuming, painting, and general cleaning

• Supports seasonal responsibilities such as snow removal and outdoor upkeep

• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment safely and effectively

• Records, reports, and assists with repairs as directed

• Ensures the building and property are secure at the end of each shift and reports incidents or hazardous conditions to a supervisor

• Replaces supplies including soap, paper towels, and other materials

• Assists with furniture setup for programs and events as needed

• Six months or more of related experience preferred

• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents

• Ability to accurately report and document maintenance needs

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and materials

• Basic understanding of equipment upkeep and care

• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe, efficient use

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout shift

• Ability to safely use ladders and work at heights up to 30 feet

• Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, and chemical compounds in various forms (liquid, powder, spray, aerosol)

• Ability to operate motorized equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks

• Ability to work in environments with dirt, dust, and humidity, including locker rooms and pool areas

• Ability to perform physical tasks including overhead reaching, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, twisting, and working in confined or elevated spaces
