Job Description

Description:

The Fuel Systems Estimator is a specialty role for someone who has spent meaningful time in the field building fuel systems and can now bring that hands-on expertise to the estimating table. You know these systems inside and out, the piping, the tanks, the dispensers, the containment, and you can translate that knowledge into accurate, competitive bids whether you're working from a full set of construction documents or nothing more than a scope description and a site address. This is not an entry point into fuel systems; it's a role for someone who has already lived the work and is ready to own it on paper.

This role sits within the estimating department's specialty lane, focused primarily on fuel systems scope. You'll be expected to produce complete, competent fuel systems estimates independently while also contributing to broader project estimates when needed. Outside expertise in other trades is welcome but not required, what matters most is depth in fuel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce complete fuel systems estimates from full construction documents, including detailed takeoffs of piping, tanks, dispensers, containment, cathodic protection, and all associated components
  • Build accurate conceptual estimates from preliminary scopes, narrative descriptions, or minimal documentation, filling gaps with field-informed judgment and experience
  • Qualify subcontractor and supplier pricing across all fuel systems components, ensuring scope completeness and competitive coverage
  • Identify project-specific complexities, site conditions, system configurations, manufacturer requirements, that affect cost and flag them early in the bid process
  • Apply working knowledge of regulatory variability across jurisdictions, accounting for compliance-related costs even when documentation is incomplete
  • Collaborate with the estimating team on multi-trade projects, contributing fuel systems scope and supporting overall bid assembly
  • Serve as an internal resource on fuel systems questions, helping less experienced estimators understand scope, systems, and manufacturer distinctions
  • Stay current on manufacturer product lines, pricing trends, and emerging fuel system technologies relevant to the company's project portfolio

Skills & Competencies

  • Fuel Systems Mastery, Possesses a deep, practical understanding of how fuel systems are designed, specified, and built across a wide range of project types and configurations
  • Conceptual Estimating, Can construct an accurate, defensible bid from minimal information by applying field experience and system knowledge to fill in what documentation doesn't provide
  • Manufacturer Fluency, Comfortable working across multiple product lines and can identify cost and scope implications when manufacturers differ
  • Regulatory Awareness, Understands that compliance requirements vary by jurisdiction and builds estimates that account for that variability rather than assuming a single standard
  • Scope Qualification, Evaluates subcontractor and supplier bids with a critical eye, identifying gaps, overlaps, and pricing anomalies that others might miss
  • Collaborative Depth, Works well within a team estimating environment and contributes technical expertise that elevates the quality of broader project bids
  • Adaptability, Willing to flex outside the fuel systems lane when project needs call for it, and open to building general estimating knowledge over time
Requirements:
  • High School diploma/GED, required
  • Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on fuel systems experience in field installation, project supervision, or a combination of both
  • Minimum of 3+ years in an estimating or takeoff capacity, with direct experience estimating fuel systems projects
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate from full construction documents and from conceptual or preliminary scopes
  • Extensive working knowledge of fuel systems across major manufacturers, including NOV, OPW, NUPI, and comparable product lines
  • Strong familiarity with underground storage tanks (UST) and aboveground storage tanks (AST), including steel and fiberglass configurations
  • Experience with dispensers, fuel management systems, secondary containment, and cathodic protection systems
  • Awareness of how regulatory requirements vary across states and jurisdictions, with the ability to account for compliance costs in bids even in the absence of project-specific documentation
  • Field experience strongly preferred; estimating depth and fuel systems expertise may substitute in exceptional cases
  • Must be able to meet company’s employment requirements, which includes passing a drug screen, background check, and MVR, if driving for the company
  • Physical Requirements: include occasional lifting/carrying of 10 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Company offerings:

  • Competitive pay
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Health benefits (including Medical, Vision, Dental, Disability)
  • Life insurance-company provided
  • Paid training for field personnel
  • Uniforms provided for field personnel
