About This Position
The Director of Education & Wellness Coordinator will work with the Education & Wellness Coordinator and Youth Coordinators to run and oversee the educational and wellness programs which are provided to students who are residents of Ethel Lawrence Homes. The staff will work closely with the Mount Laurel School District to provide a disciplined but creative afterschool program that includes academic enrichment, parent participation workshops, a summer learning camp, and one-on-one tutoring to transform children’s lives. Support from the Center continues to the later high school years in the form of assistance with the college application process, SAT prep classes and step-by-step help for parents and teens on how to apply for financial aid. This position includes but is not limited to the following list of specific tasks:
- Facilitate the afterschool and summer learning programs, including maintaining health & safety protocols, acting as an academic liaison with schools in the district, and providing appropriate oversight for program activities, clubs, parent workshops and/or special events, including field trips in the summer.
- Actively provide leadership and supervision for volunteers and groups of children during all activities.
- Plan, implement, and lead lessons, activities or enrichment that meets common core standards and intentionally connects to the school day.
- Follow trauma-informed principles and positive behavior techniques to administer discipline of children where/when appropriate, write documentation for actions, and complete parent notification.
- Effectively communicate with parents/guardians, staff, children, and community partners, in both written and verbal form.
- Maintain the program’s supply inventory, including purchasing/ordering supplies, updating the database, etc.
- Maintain the program’s database, including running attendance reports, logging discipline, updating student records, etc.
- Work collaboratively with Community Support Team to provide community events and workshops that contribute to positive housing outcomes for Ethel Lawrence Homes residents.
- Plan weekly staff meetings.
- Complete 20 hours of professional development annually as required by NJ Office of Licensing; including Health & Safety Training and First Aid/CPR Aid.
- Keep the facility clean and in an orderly fashion. Instill in the employees and children in the program the skills needed to clean up after themselves.
Incumbents must be:
- Computer literate with ability to learn new software programs.
- Able to write legibly and concisely.
- Remain professional in all aspects of the workplace.
- Able to work inside and outside.
- Experienced or educated in youth mentoring/youth development.
- Have associate degree or equivalent, including college course work in early childhood development or related field.
- Program management experience.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Pass a pre-employment background screening.
