Overview
Cambrex High Point is currently seeking exceptional candidates to Intern in our analytical research and development team. A successful candidate will be joining a group of innovative and entrepreneurial scientists, and will be required to work on project(s) relevant to Analytical R&D chemistry. Intern will present their project at the end of the intership to the Cambrex High Point colleagues. As a Research and Development (Analytical Chemistry) Intern, you may be exposed to multiple aspects of R&D, Chemistry, cGMP, API Production or other areas through orientation meetings, shadowing, and on the job training.
We are looking for a candidate who has a passion for learning and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Intern candidates must be 2nd year student or above, currently enrolled in a BS or MS Degree program in Chemistry or related field. Must have taken at least on semester of Analytical Chemistry with laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Perform analytical testing utilizing established methods.Utilize and properly maintain Analytical Instrumentation (e.g. HPLC, GC, NMR, etc.)
- Maintain laboratory notebook.
- Responsible for laboratory upkeep (supplies, chemicals, cleanliness, safety).
- This position works with and handles hazardous materials and wastes. Must have the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply, and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes.
- Safety Training is required prior to entering any laboratory or production areas. Will be responsible for recognizing emergency situations concerning hazardous materials and wastes.
Qualifications / Skills
Analytical Chemistry Knowledge: Understanding of the Scientific Method, undergraduate experience in Analytical Chemistry
Cross Discipline Knowledge: Educational exposure to cross functional technical departments, including organic chemistry
GMP/Regulatory Knowledge: With manager supervision, able to comply with SOPs and basic regulatory guidance
Instrumentation: Basic understanding of key analytical R&D equipment and ability to run using SOP with supervision
Communication: Good oral and written communication skills
Problem Solving: May be asked to support peer-led laboratory investigation process with manager support
Time Management: Ability to handle key assignments, with supervision
Leadership: Shares ideas with peers
Technical Documentation and Review: Ability to keep a good laboratory notebook and perform data entry, compliance with GDP
External Influence: Ability to work within a matrix team
Industry Credibility and Rapport: Willing to learn and grow within the local Cambrex Team
Operational Excellence: Strives to engage in group/team improvement projects
Change Orientation: Ability to understand the importance and support Cambrex initiatives
Qualifications
Must be a 2nd year student or above, currently enrolled in a BS or MS degree program in Chemistry or related field. Must have taken at least one semester of Analytical Chemistry with laboratory. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point is desirable.
Theoretical Understanding of some of the following analytical techniques is helpful:
- Basic Laboratory Techniques (weighing, pipetting, measuring solutions, etc.)
- HPLC and/or GC Chromatography
- Karl Fischer Water Content
- FTIR
- NMR
