MAJOR FUNCTIONS
This position involves frequent physical labor in unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of Airfield equipment as well as aircraft ground handling and fueling. Employees perform essential functions as outlined herein.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.
- Performs and assists in aircraft fueling.
- Properly selects and operates various aircraft tugs and towbars for repositioning and hangaring aircraft.
- Performs custodial functions including cleaning and sanitizing facilities, cleaning windows and floors, vacuuming carpets, and emptying trash receptacles.
- May perform airfield condition inspections including runways and airfield lighting. Performs daily quality control checks on fuel trucks, fuel farm tanks, self-serve tank, and ground service equipment.
- Performs minor maintenance of facilities and equipment. Makes minor repairs to electrical appliances that do not contain refrigerants.
- Sets up and takes down tables and chairs for scheduled programs and events. May perform event set-ups, clean-ups, and setting up barriers.
- Makes minor repairs to plumbing fixtures. This includes unclogging toilets and sink drains and locating water leaks inside and outside of buildings.
- Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Moves office furniture and performs emergency or accident cleanup.
- Supports other workers in the event of absence.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
This is a front-line position that provides excellent customer service to members of the public and Government employees. Personal contact occurs with employees of other departments in the Authority on a limited basis, and with other employees of the unit, citizens, and customers of the department on a daily basis. Service is provided in person.
SUPERVISION
This position has no supervisory responsibilities and requires self-supervision and independent judgment in most tasks.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS
Education and Experience.
High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) with one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses.
Minimum requirement: Class E Florida Driver’s License.

Machinery and Equipment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to operate the following machines and equipment: aircraft fuel trucks, aircraft tugs, aircraft ground power unit (GPU), lavatory cart and a variety of hand tools used in the trade; computers, calculator, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, and other general office equipment in completion of the tasks of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, smell, and lift up to and including fifty (50) pounds. Will be required to reach with hands and arms. Will be required to stand, walk, talk, hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Vision requirements are close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Reading glasses, prescription eyeglasses, and hearing aids are acceptable to meet requirements. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, various fuels and oils, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration. The typical noise level for this environment is loud.
