Description

Laboratory Assistant with phlebotomy training to support laboratory operations. To perform phlebotomy and routine assigned tasks involving specimen processing and preparation of specimens for analysis. This role combines general lab responsibilities with direct patient interaction, ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and processing in clinical or diagnostic settings.
Key Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages

Properly label, handle, and transport blood and other specimens

Prepare laboratory equipment, reagents, and samples for testing

Assist laboratory technologists with routine tests and procedures

Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of lab equipment and work areas

Record patient information and test data accurately

Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines

Monitor inventory and restock supplies, including phlebotomy materials

Provide patient care by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort during blood draws

Required Skills & Qualifications

Certified phlebotomy required (ASCP preferred)

Knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen handling

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Excellent interpersonal and patient communication skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment

Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and procedures

Basic computer and data entry skills

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent (required)

Phlebotomy certification from an accredited program required (ASCP preferred)

Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is a plus
