About This Position

Position Highlights:

  • The Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (ACPS) is an expert-level practitioner who serves as a recognized authority within the institution, leading and advancing clinical pharmacy services across all areas of care. Operating at the top of their license, the ACPS functions with a high degree of autonomy to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to the most complex hematology and oncology patients. This role is distinguished by its leadership in clinical innovation, engagement in practice-based research, and involvement in implementing strategic programs that enhance patient care and advance pharmacy practice. The ACPS serves as a key mentor to other clinical pharmacists, residents and students, and plays an integral role in shaping institutional policies, optimizing medication use, and driving quality outcomes in cancer patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and optimizes pharmacotherapy for complex oncology populations, including patients with refractory disease, those enrolled in clinical trials, and recipients of novel therapies such as cellular therapies (e.g., CAR-T) and complex immunotherapies.
  • Leads the implementation of new clinical practices and technologies within their service area, collaborating with peers
    and providers to expand clinical pharmacy services and support quality improvement efforts.
  • Designs, conducts, and publishes practice-based research and quality improvement projects that contribute to the body of
    knowledge in oncology pharmacy. Seeks opportunities to serve as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator.
  • Serves as a Program Director, Coordinator, or primary preceptor for the PGY-2 and PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Programs,
    developing the curriculum and overseeing the training and evaluation of residents.
  • Contributes to medication safety initiatives by identifying and analyzing medication errors and adverse drug events within their practice area, and by implementing evidence-based strategies to enhance patient safety.

Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required

  • Demonstrated ability to lead clinical initiatives
  • Experience mentoring residents, students, or junior pharmacists
  • Participation in institutional committees or task forces
  • Evidence of autonomous practice capabilities
  • Active participation in research or quality improvement
  • Contribution to protocol/guideline development

Required Credentials and Qualifications:

  • PharmD
  • Licensed Pharmacist (RPh/PS)
  • Completion of a PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency in area of specialization OR PGY-1 residency AND a minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience as a clinical pharmacist in a comprehensive academic setting OR 8 years of progressive experience as a clinical pharmacist in a comprehensive academic setting with significant time practicing in applicable specialty area.
  • Board of Pharmacy Certification (BPS) in area of Specialty within 18 months of hire or transfer.
    • BPS certifications allowed are: BCPS - Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialty, BCOP - Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist, BCIDP - Board Certified Infectious Disease Pharmacist, BCPMP -
      Board Certified Pain Management Pharmacist, BCCCP - Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacist
