This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Engineer I - Research and Development in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced engineering, architecture, and innovation, focusing on the design and delivery of complex, high-performance software systems that support mission-critical healthcare and data-driven platforms. You will work across hybrid environments, including on-premise systems and cloud infrastructure, contributing to scalable and secure solutions that power large-scale transaction processing. As a senior technical contributor, you will influence architectural decisions, guide engineering teams, and help shape technical direction across services, APIs, and integrations. The position combines deep hands-on development with strategic leadership in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. You will partner closely with engineering leadership to improve system performance, reduce technical debt, and advance engineering excellence. This is an opportunity to work on impactful systems while mentoring others and driving innovation across distributed architectures and modern data platforms.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across software engineering teams, ensuring the delivery of scalable and reliable systems. You will design and implement complex service-oriented and API-based solutions supporting high-volume transaction processing platforms, particularly within healthcare-related applications.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to software engineering teams while driving engineering best practices and quality standards
  • Design, develop, and optimize services, APIs, and integrations across hybrid (cloud and on-premise) environments
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and leadership to define architectural direction and deliver robust, high-performance solutions
  • Conduct code reviews, identify performance bottlenecks, and drive remediation of technical debt and system inefficiencies
  • Support high-volume data and transaction processing systems, including monitoring, logging, and observability implementations
  • Lead technical initiatives that improve scalability, reliability, and system performance across distributed architectures
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering organization
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in software engineering, with strong technical depth in backend systems, distributed architectures, and data-intensive applications. You should be comfortable working across complex environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing hands-on technical leadership.

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including significant technical leadership or senior-level responsibilities
  • Strong expertise in programming languages such as Java and Python, along with related frameworks and enterprise development tools
  • Deep experience with relational databases (MSSQL, Oracle) and SQL/PLSQL, as well as exposure to NoSQL and vector databases
  • Background in high-volume transaction processing systems, messaging-based architectures, and ETL pipelines
  • Experience working in hybrid environments and familiarity with cloud platforms and microservices architectures
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and ability to drive complex technical initiatives independently
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring engineers and working in agile environments
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering workflows is a strong plus
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary ($140,000 - $170,000 annually) with discretionary bonus eligibility
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan
  • Paid time off (17–27 days depending on tenure) plus 9 paid holidays
  • Paid family leave programs
  • Fully remote work setup with required home office and connectivity support
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact healthcare and data systems
  • Career growth in a highly technical, innovation-driven engineering environment
