About This Position

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Position Purpose: The Staff Accountant is a key team member in the monthly close process and assists in the preparation, issuance, and analysis of monthly financial reports. This self-driven, detail-oriented professional must possess strong problem-solving skills, be well organized, and can work well under pressure. This position reports to the Assistant Controller.

Key Job Activities:

• Responsible for month-end expense review and accruals for assigned categories.

• Assists in the month-end close process by gathering data, updating analysis reports, and recording journal entries as required.

• Assists with the preparation of monthly financial reporting schedules.

• Assists in year-end external audit and annual tax return preparation by gathering supporting documents and preparing schedules.

• Prepare monthly balance sheet account and bank reconciliations and research/resolve any reconciling items on a timely basis.

• Assist in daily reconciliation of cash and posting from the Patient Accounting System to the bank accounts and General Ledger.

• Special projects as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in general accounting, month-end close, and reconciliations

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be detail oriented with an ability to multitask and maintain a strong focus on quality, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn and take on new tasks
  • Self-starter with:
    • Ability to operate with minimal supervision
    • Ability to multitask
    • Analytical and detailed-oriented
  • Strong communication and customer service skills:
    • Confidence in relating to management staff outside the accounting department
    • Ability to relate to vendors and employees in a professional manner.
    • Action-oriented and eager to embrace new opportunities and through challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to direct work with an accounting team and earn the respect of colleagues
  • Experience in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPA preferred
