About This Position
Founded in 1971, Centers for New Horizons, Inc. (Centers) is a nonprofit organization that assists children, youth, and families to become self-reliant. With 100+ full-time staff, most of whom live in or near its service communities, Centers provides programs in seven locations throughout the Bronzeville and Riverdale communities of Chicago's Southside that reach over 1,000 individuals daily.
Position Summary
Safe Passage workers are responsible for monitoring and ensuring safe passage of children to and from school designated locations. The Community Watcher is also responsible for maintaining positive and strong community relationships. The shift for this role is 4 hours a day: 7am - 9am and 2pm - 4pm, 5 days a week **Must be able to pass a background check**
Position Function
•Ensure safe passage before and after school
•Provide presence at designated areas within the community
•Monitors school premises, areas and 'hot spots'
•Maintain community partnerships
•Follow the direction of the Lead Community Watcher
•Provides daily updates to the Lead Community Watcher
•Maintains a daily and weekly activity reports
•Attend educational seminars and trainings
•Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
•HS Diploma or Equivalent
•Strong verbal communication skills
•Prior Security experience and Military experience preferred
•Knowledgeable of surrounding community
•Ability to responds to emergencies and handle disputes in a calm and professional manner
•Experience in developing community relationships and partnerships
•Commitment to diversity and must have the ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds
•Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes mornings, afternoon and some weekends
•Ability to stand long periods of time
•Possess a valid Driver's License
•Access to reliable transportation
