Job Description:
Join CPD and dive into the world of criminal investigations!
As an Investigative Support Intern this summer, you’ll assist detectives, work on real cases, and gain hands-on experience in research and casework — all while serving your community and exploring a future in criminal justice.

What You’ll Do:
  • Support the Investigations Section by preforming research in numerous computer databases.
  • Assist with pawn shop compliance and research on active cases.
  • Provides customer service and fields phone calls for the Criminal Investigations Section as needed.
  • Citizen/victim contact and follow-up on active cases.
  • Provide the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office with offense reports when requested for case review.
  • Assist detectives with compiling case files and electronically scan case files into record management systems.
  • Assist detectives with active investigations as needed, both in the office and field.
  • Compile information for crime bulletins and crime line releases
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Possess investigative interest
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism

Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for the following:
  • Providing their own transportation to and from work.
  • Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the worksite supervisor.
  • Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the worksite supervisor in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.
  • Conforming to the guidelines of the internship worksite.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a degree or having an interest in a criminal justice related field.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional and confidential environment

The ideal candidate is a college student in good standing – preferably a junior, senior, or graduate student -who is currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, or who has graduated within the past year.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
