The Union Hospital Child Development Center is a Paths to Quality Level 4 child care and pre-school facility located right next to Union Hospital. The center accepts children as young as 6 weeks old and continues to care and nurture your child until they’re ready for kindergarten.
The Teaching Assistant is a key support to classroom teachers, helping provide safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for all children.
You would ensure You would ensure that daily routines, safety procedures, and educational activities are carried out consistently to promote each child’s well-being and growth.
This role reports to the Director of Child Development.
Essential & valuable skills gained (in this unit or in this department):
- Hands-on experience supporting high-quality early childhood education through daily classroom activities and age-appropriate learning practices.
- Strong skills in maintaining a safe, organized, and nurturing environment while applying policies, emergency procedures, and confidentiality standards.
- Enhanced communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities through collaboration with teachers, families, and child development staff.

- Licensed by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and recognized as a Level 4 Paths to Quality center, the highest rating awarded in the state.
- Demonstrates a longstanding commitment to continuous quality improvement and excellence in early learning, helping families make informed childcare decisions.
- Nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 2005, with successful reaccreditations in 2010, 2015, and 2020.
Essential Job Duties:
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering quality educational programming and maintaining a safe, developmentally appropriate environment.
- Support daily routines, including sanitizing, organizing materials, managing transitions, and helping with record keeping.
- Apply center and hospital policies, including safety protocols, emergency procedures, and confidentiality standards.
- Provide nurturing, calm, and consistent guidance that promotes children’s social, emotional, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred; relevant work experience may be considered.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining effective classroom control and positive role-model behavior.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and the ability to support children’s growth across all age groups.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and adapt to changing classroom or staffing needs.
