About This Position
SUMMARY
As a Thrift Store Associate, you play a vital role in ensuring the success of the store by providing excellent customer service, maintaining store appearance, and assisting in daily operations. Your primary duties include sorting donations, stocking shelves, managing the register, and representing the CAP Agency in working with customers and volunteers. The Thrift Store Associate must be able to work a flexible schedule, that will include early evening and Saturdays.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides excellent customer service to all visitors of the thrift store.
- Follows procedures for processing transactions in point-of-sale system.
- Follows all opening and closing Thrift Store procedures.
- Oversees quality control of clothing that involves the daily sorting, marking, and hanging, lifting and selling of merchandise.
- Maintains a cordial working relationship with other staff and volunteers.
- Represents the CAP Agency in a positive and professional manner when working with customers’ questions, complaints, and special needs.
- Provide excellent customer service to those who donate. Provides donors with tax deduction receipt.
- Other duties assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma/GED or currently enrolled in high school program.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of customer service.
- Techniques for dealing effectively with co-workers and the public, in person and over the telephone.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Skill in:
- Making accurate arithmetic calculations.
- Understanding and following oral and written directions.
- Use of business software and associated computer hardware.
- Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
- Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
- Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required. Reliable transportation required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a retail environment, standard office, outdoors, and with CAP Agency utility vehicles. Lifting of articles such as bags, boxes, and other items more than 20 pounds, as well as lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and walk continuously throughout the workday.
