About This Position

Job Summary
-
The ED Tech I serves as the main support person to the Emergency Department. He/she provides compassionate, safe, and competent patient care to patients of all ages, under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. Job Duties may include, but are not limited to, answering phones and EMS radio, stocking the unit including crash cart, unit housekeeping, patient hygiene, obtaining vital signs, collecting and transporting lab specimens, applying orthopedic devices, obtaining EKGs, insertion of intravenous catheter and Foley catheter as assigned by RN or physician, monitoring patients in the waiting room, responsible for patient flow to include communication with charge nurse, physician, and registration, and other duties as assigned by the registered nurse or physician. Prior to performing clinical skills, the employee will successfully complete a targeted training.

Minimum Education Requirement
-
High school graduate or equivalent and completion of EMT-B or higher, or CNA, MA; Patient Care Tech preferred or completion of at least one year of a nursing program or other equivalent medical certification. Must complete ED Tech competencies within 6 months.

Minimum Experience Requirement
-
Prior experience must include at least six months to one year providing direct patient care, either for an ambulance service, or within an emergency department. Must possess self- motivation and organizational skills necessary in a fast paced, high stress critical care setting. Interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with basic computer skills are required. Detail attentiveness required. Individual must be self-motivated and willing to self-direct. Ability to simultaneously handle multiple assignments and projects with speed and accuracy. Must be able to prioritize tasks and work efficiently and effectively under time constraints.

Minimum License Requirement

BLS certification. BLS certification may be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Physical Requirement/Working Conditions
-
Should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and will seek assistance when heavier objects need to be lifted. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment. May be exposed to infectious specimens, diseases, soiled laundry, lifting and handling of heavy patients, but potential for personal harm or injury to self or others is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Able to maintain emotional stability; must be able to tolerate extensive walking, moderate sitting, standing and lifting; physically able to perform CPR. External applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential functions, either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis.
