About This Position

  • Job Summary
    • The Records Management Tech 1 position supports oversight of functions within Health Information Management. This position reports to the manager of Health Information Management via the Records Management Coordinator and is directly involved in the clerical aspects of the Health Information Management Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to answering the telephone, assembling, scanning, indexing, filing and retrieving confidential patient records, analysis of patient records, release of information and quality control. This position also retrieves confidential records from the control of records warehouse and performs other record keeping tasks.
  • Regulatory Requirements
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Prior experience in a health care or office setting preferred.
    • Prior EMR experience preferred (experience with Meditech strongly preferred).
    • An Associate's degree from a recognized college or university in a healthcare related field with a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification being strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated expertise working with multiple cross-functional departments as well as scissor lift experience is also preferred.
  • Language Skills
    • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
    • Additional languages preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Skills
    • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to effectively anticipate and respond to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment.
    • Dedication to treating both internal and external constituents as clients and customers, maintaining a flexible customer service approach and orientation that emphasizes service satisfaction and quality.
    • A demonstrated ability to use PC based office productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel) as necessary; general computer skills necessary to work effectively in an office environment.
    • Aptitude for Medical Terminology.
    • Scissor lift experience preferred.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal privacy laws (e.g. HIPAA).
