Summary

The Staff Attorney provides legal advice and counsel to MFB under the oversight of the General Counsel.
Serves to reduce risk and guide informed decisions by researching and interpreting laws, and advising
providers in interactions with outside agencies and regulatory bodies. Drafts and reviews legal documents and
keeps staff informed of relevant health care law.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Works under the general oversight of the General Counsel to provide legal advice and counsel to MFB
  • Researches and interprets laws and regulations to reduce risk and guide informed decisions.
  • Assists General Counsel in advising and representing MFB and entities on transactional matters, formation of health care entities, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, Fraud & Abuse, Stark, AKS)
  • Advises providers in interactions with federal and state agencies, including regulatory audits, investigations, and eligibility issues
  • Reviews and drafts documents for MFB including compliance plans, vendor service agreements, employment & independent contractor agreements, and confidentiality agreements
  • Represents MFB in litigation and negotiations as needed.
  • May coordinate with outside counsel on specialized issues.
  • Assists MFB with the collection of debts
  • Presents seminars on health care law to staff

Essential Job Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) required
  • Admittance to the State Bar required
  • Desire to practice in health care required
  • Human Resources and Employment Law experience
  • Responsiveness
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Significant interest in one or more areas of health care law – transactional, regulatory, provider issues
  • Ability and urgency to be primarily responsible for client matters
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members of the legal team and staff throughout the organization
