Brief Overview
High Plains Processing is seeking a Plant Engineer for the soon-to-be completed switch plant in Mitchell, South Dakota. High Plains is affiliated with South Dakota Soybean Processors and their partners. The Plant Engineer will begin their High Plains Processing career during the development and construction stages of the plant and continue to design, control, and coordinate projects to ensure optimal performance and plant efficiency.
The Plant Engineer will begin in March of 2025 and will work closely with South Dakota Soybean Processors' Engineering team. This may require some travel to the Brookings, SD area. High Plains Processing is projected to open in the fall of 2025.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with Operations team to optimize processes.
- Design and develop processes and equipment specifications utilizing engineering skills and tools.
- Take a proactive, solution-oriented approach to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems or potential issues.
- Track costs, yields, quality, and process performance, discussing with and reporting to engineering team and management.
- Develop and perform feasibility studies and cost estimates.
- Foster collaborative relationships with all internal departments and supporting teams.
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of daily activities, planning and project execution and communicate safety expectations to employees and third parties.
- Manage projects and lead process improvements by determining priorities, scheduling, coordinating, and communicating with all stakeholders ensuring completion within time and budget projections.
- Coordinate, lead and manage project specific, diverse teams of contractors, consultants, and employees.
- Be a good steward of company resources when purchasing materials, supplies, and scheduling contractors.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering required (mechanical, agricultural, civil, chemical)
- 2+ years' experience in processing plant operations desired
- Working knowledge of government regulations and design codes
- Effective and professional communication through speaking, writing, and listening.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills with ability to prioritize, adapt and act.
- Demonstratable work history of mechanical and software proficiency with proven success.
