About This Position
We’re looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our surgical care team! In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for patients, conducting all pre-admission phone calls to ensure a smooth and informed experience before their procedure. You’ll also provide hands-on patient care in accordance with the Practical Nurse Act of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, working under the guidance of a registered nurse. Requirements:ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Completes and verifies all pre-admission data required by state and federal rules and regulations as well as AAAHC accreditation standards. Calls will be made according to established policies and procedures.
· Verifies patient identification, utilizing the Center’s approved two unique identifiers.
· Communicates any abnormal or concerning information received from the patient to the Clinical Director immediately.
· Notifies the Section 1557 Coordinator if there is a request for an interpreter.
· Documents all information related to pre-admission calls with the patient in the appropriate area(s) of the electronic health record.
· Participates in training and education as designated, including initial orientation, ongoing competency assessment and related mandatory educational topics.
· Assists in orientation of new staff members, as assigned.
· Provides patient care in accordance with 49 Pa. Code § 21.145 - Functions of the LPN.
· Communicates effectively with RNs and other healthcare team members, especially when patient care needs exceed their scope of practice or when there are significant changes in a patient's condition.
· Obtains supervision and instruction when implementing new or unfamiliar nursing practices.
· Adheres to facility policies regarding medication administration, including accepting orders from authorized practitioners,
· Assists, as assigned, during emergency situations.
· Documents all patient care provided based on policies and procedures established by the governing body.
· Follows all infection control policies and procedures.
· Provides for patient safety demonstrated by knowledge of patient safety processes and policies.
· Demonstrates clinical knowledge of the nursing process and adheres to the policies, procedures, programs, plans, and standards adopted by the facility.
· Fosters a customer-focused environment for patients, visitors, and members of the health care team.
· Maintains clinical competency in practical nursing practice.
· Assumes role of patient advocate while patients are most vulnerable.
· Consistently fosters an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation through communication and cooperation with all members of the health care team
· Fosters public relations through positive representation of the organization.
· Participates with committees as appointed by the governing body.
· Consistently adheres to OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines, applying standard and transmission-based precautions.
· Demonstrates an awareness of patient safety and proper body mechanics when moving patients or equipment.
· Accurately completes incident reports within the shift of occurrence and immediately communicates critical incidents to the appropriate personnel.
· Maintains confidentiality of all patients and respects the patient’s privacy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Completed a program in practical nursing prescribed and approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
· Possess a current unrestricted license to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an LPN.
· Possess BLS and is encouraged to obtain ACLS certification.
· Maintain clinical competency in practical nursing.
· Meets all continuing education requirements as required for licensure renewal on a 2-year cycle.
· Familiarity with personal computer and ancillary equipment, telephone, electronic health record system and requirements for documentation, copier, and fax. Exhibits appropriate communication skills
· Ability to communicate effectively with the public, peers, and physicians. Able to speak fluently in English.
· Ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry-out.
· instructions furnished in written, oral, or other formats.
· Ability to solve problems with potentially several variables concurrently.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience in same day/ambulatory surgery is preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Moderate physical effort, periods of prolonged standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping.
· Transport and ambulate patients of varying height and weight.
· Ability to hear directions and equipment alarms, call lights, telephone.
· Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency.
POSITION ENVIRONMENT, TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This includes but not limited to being exposed to bloodborne pathogens, anesthetic gases, electrical and mechanical hazards, confused or combative patients, bio-contaminated waste, and unpleasant elements. Subject to stressful situations; occasional irregular hours related to patient need. The noise level in the work environment is usually considered to be moderate.
This is a full-time/part-time, non-exempt position. Business hours of operation 6am-4:30pm, subject to change based on volume.
