Position Summary:
The successful Master Teacher organizes and providesdevelopmentally appropriate early childhood education programs; plans andimplements curriculum standards for children ranging in age from six weeks to14 years old; supervises and observes teachers in classroom or other teachingsettings to assess relevant skills, and recommends methods and strategiesappropriate to the achievement of project goals; plans and prepares classroomsetting; oversees safety and educational programs; supervises children in theclassroom; provides a supportive environment in which children can learn andpractice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors; leads andfunctionally supervises assigned staff and students, to include workallocation, training, and problem resolution; provides performance managementfeedback as appropriate; involvement with daily classroom scheduling and otheradministrative duties as assigned including compiling data, writing reports,and overseeing compliance of licensing regulations.

Thisis a direct supervisor position that must be on-site and available to Teachers,Children, and Families on a day-to-day basis. This person must also haveexperience working with young children in an educational setting. ThisMaster Teacher oversees compliance with The State of New Mexico CYFD licensingrequirements for childcare, as well as compliance with our Tiered QualityImprovement Rating System (FOCUS) and our National Accreditation through TheNational Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The earlychildhood programs provided by our department provide services to 300 families;the Master Teacher will support the teaching staff in providing consistent andhigh-quality programming aligning with the UNMCC philosophy and the Universityof New Mexico policies. The classrooms and teaching staff consist of 15classrooms, 45 teaching staff, 40 student staff, and 300 families on a dailybasis. This includes direct supervision, along with two other Master Teachers,to ensure licensing compliance and all appropriate safety measures.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
