POSITION DETAILS
Part-time with benefits; 40 hours per two week pay period, Monday through Friday day shift working 10am to 6:30pm; Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification on hire or within one year of hire required.
JOB SUMMARY
The Sterile Processing Technician performs cleaning, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, storage and delivery of sterile instruments and trays. The Sterile Processing Technician will support all patient care services and is responsible for knowing all of the instruments used in the operating room, clinic, and hospital departments. The Sterile Processing Technician will also perform appropriate documentation for the sterile processing processes.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
- Performs instrument decontamination, processing, & sterilization according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
- Accurately assembles instrument sets/pans to ensure they are complete.
- Keep track of loaner instruments/implant trials and reprocess them before and after the case they are intended for.
- Maintain knowledge of current instructions for use (IFU) for proper care and use of instruments.
- Communicate throughout the facility to ensure all departments have the instruments needed to perform their job duties.
- Accurately assemble case carts for upcoming cases.
- Maintain sterilizer load records.
- Performs decontamination and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes per manufacturer’s IFU.
- Willingly accepts delegated tasks and projects from the Sterile Processing Coordinator, Nursing Coordinator, or Surgical Services Director.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification within one year of hire required.
- Current certification or eligibility to become BLS certified.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Must have a high energy level with ability to work under the stress of the operating room atmosphere and exhibit emotional maturity, stability and flexibility.
- Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment.
- Needs to possess a high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
- Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to respond appropriately to changing staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources.
- Full range of body motion and flexibility is required on a daily basis.
- Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to verify visual and audio alarms on machines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, and dusts. Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations. Environment is climate controlled.
