About This Position

Job Summary:

“Under the direction of the Chair, Division Chief, Sr. Director of Administration, Lead APP, and Regional Director for Faculty Practices”, serve as a Physician Assistant (APP or NP) for the Neurosurgery Academic Division.

Job Requirement:

  • Graduated from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). New Jersey License from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory Committee. In the case of a new graduate, they may be considered under the condition that he/she successfully takes and passes the Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants .
  • OR
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Registered as a Professional Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • BLS is required.

Scheduling Requirements:

This role would be M-F 8-5.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs specialty examination of patient based on an understanding of neurosurgical pathology, this includes performing comprehensive neurological physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal with a neurosurgical specialty focus
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection of neurosurgical patients with an understanding of potential complications related to surgical subspecialty treatments
  • Develops and implements specialty focused patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provisions of continuity of care.
  • Instructs and counsels surgical subspecialty patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • In conjunction with the medical staff, develops and maintains all requirements related to regulatory agencies of the local, state, and federal governments.
