About This Position

SITE SUPERVISOR – NORTH WARNING SYSTEM

LOCATION: Remote Long Range Radar Sites located in Brevoort Island, NU and/or Cape Dyer, NU

TYPE: ROTATIONAL POSITION (6 weeks on/6 weeks off)

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Reporting to the LSS Manager, the Site Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of operations and maintenance staff to assure safe and efficient operations at a manned Long-Range Radar (LRR) site.

  • Supervision/oversight of the day-to-day operations consisting of both trades and non-trades positions
  • The safety of all personnel on site, including visitors and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with all Nasittuq policies
  • Maintaining a safe work environment; inspecting areas for potential hazards and rectifying and/or reporting to manager
  • The judicious allocation of site resources to support overall Nasittuq priorities of performing site maintenance tasks as well as responding to any corrective maintenance and,
  • Maintaining site cleanliness and ensuring the site is returned to normal LSS operation in a fully satisfactory state at the end of the period of activity
  • Collaborate with colleagues at the Long-Range Radar (LRR) site, as well as colleagues at the Logistics Support System Services (LSS) staff at the main site and the NWS Command Control Centre and NWS Support Centre in North Bay, ON to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow safety standards and contribute to maintaining a safe and respectful working environment.
  • Represent Nasittuq in a professional manner at all times to third parties and the client.
  • Travel between adjacent radar sites as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WHO YOU ARE:

Credentials: High school diploma or equivalent; post secondary education in a technical or a business management program an asset.

Certificates(s)/License(s): Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Experience:

  • Previous trade or technical experience, ideally in a northern/remote environment
  • Minimum 2 years’ supervisory/lead hand experience in a technical/trades service environment
  • Previous experience with the NWS contract is an asset

Skills:

  • Must be familiar with the scope of work to be performed at an LRR
  • Knowledge of work/project management practices relating to the operation and maintenance of remote sites.
  • Proven leadership, team building, mentoring and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational, communications, computer, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Adaptability and ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-culturally

Team-Oriented:

  • Comfortable working in a close-knit, unionized environment and motivated to contribute to a mission that goes beyond standard operations.
  • Strong communications, decision-making and documentation skills to exercise judgment/due diligence in addressing/reporting issues that arise from time to time, given consideration to the isolation/remoteness and complexity of logistical requirements.
  • Strong team building and mentoring skills
  • Autonomy, initiative and ability to balance priorities
  • Ability to speak Inuktitut an asset
