About This Position
The Converged Network Technician assists with the implementation, monitoring, and support for a Large Global Enterprise Converged Network and Security Infrastructure. The Converged Network Technician is responsible for traveling to remote locations (~75% travel required) for the set-up and repair of the network infrastructure.
Qualified candidates should be able to:
- Install, configure, and maintain converged network infrastructure. Including fiber optics, twisted pair copper, microwave and satellite systems
- Conduct surveys and prepare designs for new installations, upgrades, and system improvements in converged networks.
- Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to plan and execute system upgrades, expansions and optimizations.
- Participate and/or lead conference calls to customers to discuss the new infrastructure and the implementation requirements.
- Configure routers, switches, and other related hardware to ensure reliable data transmission across the network
- Schedule site network outages to allow for installation of new equipment.
- Prepare cables and equipment for travel and arrange travel, hotels and vehicle for transportation to the site.
- Coordinate with site personnel to ensure all applications and network connectivity is working correctly.
- Adhere to safety standards and industry regulations to ensure that all equipment is configured and installed according to industry standards and corporate best practices.
- Work closely with other departments/organizations and collaborate with other IT staff on infrastructure activities.
- Provide technical support for converged network services, including troubleshooting and identifying equipment malfunctions.
Requirements
Required Experience
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to meet 8570 compliance
- Active Secret Clearance Required
- Expertise with LAN/WAN technologies throughout a global infrastructure
- Expertise with Cisco routers
- Expertise with Cisco, Ruckus, Juniper switches
- Expertise with Cisco, Palo Alto firewalls
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic splicing, installation and testing
- Proficient in using network diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting transport issues
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience supporting deployment and/or sustainment of a converged network environment
- Technical experience in the following technologies:
- Knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
- IP Network Design & troubleshooting skills
- Experience designing and deploying network solutions in enterprise environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in large scale enterprise network rollout and support
- Familiarity with IP-based transport technologies and network management tools
