GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are now seeking to add to our team. We are looking for a Claims Manager to join our team in Hawaii. The candidate should be near one of our GBI offices in Oahu, Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island.

The Claims Manager oversees and manages all aspects of the claims process within the heavy civil construction industry. This includes handling General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto Liability, Equipment Damage, and other third-party claim types. The ideal candidate will have extensive claims management experience, particularly within the construction industry. A key aspect of this role involves close coordination with Regional Safety Professionals and Operations Management to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management and claims mitigation.

Essential Functions

  • Claims Management:
    • Oversee the daily management of all claims, including General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto Liability, Equipment Damage, and other third-party claims.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of claims to insurers and third-party administrators.
    • Lead investigations into claims, coordinating with internal and external resources to gather necessary documentation and evidence.
    • Evaluate and analyze claim data to identify trends and recommend proactive measures to reduce future claims.
  • Coordination with Safety and Operations:
    • Collaborate closely with Regional Safety Professionals to integrate safety practices into claims management and risk mitigation strategies.
    • Work with Operations Management to ensure that claims handling aligns with operational priorities and project timelines.
    • Facilitate regular meetings with safety and operations teams to discuss ongoing claims, identify potential risks, and develop action plans to address them.
    • Participate in job site safety audits and incident reviews, providing claims expertise to help prevent future incidents.
  • Risk Mitigation:
    • Partner with project managers, safety teams, and legal counsel to develop and implement strategies for reducing claim frequency and severity.
    • Participate in safety meetings and conduct site visits as necessary to assess potential risks and recommend preventive measures.
    • Review contracts and insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage and compliance with industry standards.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on claim trends, costs, and outcomes to senior management.
    • Monitor and manage the claims budget, ensuring cost-effective handling and resolution of claims.
    • Work closely with insurers, brokers, and third-party administrators to ensure proper claim handling and resolution.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure all claims are handled in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
    • Stay current on changes in legislation and industry standards that may impact claims management and risk mitigation.
  • Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
    • Liaise with external vendors, including legal counsel, investigators, and medical providers, to ensure proper handling of claims.
    • Maintain strong relationships with insurance carriers, brokers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Contracts
    • Assist the Contracts Department by gathering and providing detailed information on past and current claims, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of prequalification questionnaires.

This position offers a salary range of $130,000 to $163,000 annually.

Position Qualifications

  • The ability to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in claims management, preferably within the heavy civil construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto Liability, and other third-party claims.
  • Strong understanding of construction industry practices, risks, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel as needed to project sites and meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as ARM (Associate in Risk Management) or CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) are highly desirable.
  • Experience with litigation management and familiarity with construction contracts.
