Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Director of Quality Assurance

Core Function

Evaluate and test, repair and adjust various equipment using diagnostic and measuring tools.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform and create First Article Inspection (FAI) packages, Technical Validation Report (TVR) packages, measurement illustrations, capability studies, Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R), and Parts Per Million (PPM) analysis.
  • Collect and report data, perform inspections, troubleshooting issues, repair and calibrate equipment, and ensure adherence to metrology lab standards and safety protocols.
  • Conduct precision measurements of plastic components and parts using various tools, including:
  1. Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
  2. Micro-Vu vision system
  3. Calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, micrometers, No/Go gauges
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by assisting with the adoption and calibration of new measurement equipment.
  • Identify and resolve defects and non-conformance issues, preparing technical deviation reports when necessary.
  • Interpret engineering drawings to extract relevant measurement specifications and train new quality personnel on blueprint reading and tolerances.

Training Requirements

ISO Quality Procedures, Precision Measurement Techniques, Metrology Laboratory Safety

Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.

Certifications preferred:

ASME GD&T Professional Certification (GDTP)

Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) – ASQ

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Metrology Certification

Experience

3 – 5 years of experience working as a metrology technician or relevant role.

Skills

  • Strong mathematical and calibration skills.
  • Hands-on experience with precision measurement tools and CMM programming.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 & ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot measurement discrepancies and provide root cause analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with small parts assembly.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T symbols.

Physical Requirements

Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. If the use of arm and / or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than sedentary work and worker sits most of the time, the job is light work.

Visual Acuity

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as; preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and or operation or machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distance close to the eyes.

Work Conditions

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change.
