Position Summary
-
The RCVT obtains radiographs of various parts of the body for assessment, diagnosis, or staging, of diseases or injuries within the operating room. Examination areas include body, extremities, and assists with special fluoroscopic examinations such as GI procedures and endovascular suite cases. Prepares sterile setups, etc., all in accordance with department standards and routines. Assumes responsibility for protection of one's self, the patient, and others, by adhering to prescribed safety standards outlining the safe use of electricity, radiation safety, contrast injections, infection control, etc. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation.

Due to the job responsibilities, the RCVT requires RAD, PCI, OE, OA, NUR, and MOX Meditech module access. Access to MM, MIS and BAR Meditech modules required for specific job duties.

Professional Certification - Required

Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.) in Radiologic Technology, or Registry eligible*Registry eligible candidates must successfully pass certification within one year of hire date. Failure to gain certification will require the individual to forfeit position or become a radiology aide (if position is available). Competency as evident in pursuing and maintaining national certification within subspecialty area.

Core Job Functions
- Implement AORN standards of care using best practice. Implement hospital policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable of JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines concerning the care of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of proper aseptic technique, Universal Precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify and ALARA. Demonstrates knowledge of patients rights and use of required patient identification.
- Timely transmission of images to PACS for MD reading/reporting. Requests outside images as needed. Maintains compliance with FDA, ACR, and MQSA requirements.
- Functions as part of the team maintaining constructive collaborative relationships with coworkers, peers, managers and customers. Takes the initiative to lead by example and provide service recovery whenever necessary. Assists in the social and professional integration of others within the environment.
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment is performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendation and department policy. Work orders involving equipment are entered promptly into the system. Staff education regarding care and operation of equipment is conducted annually and documented as needed.
- National certification/registry is maintained. Competency in the use of all department equipment and performance of all department procedures is demonstrated.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patient being served. Demonstrates principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient populations served. Coordinates patient care needs with team members and other appropriate departments.
