Job Title: Assistant Operations Supervisor
Reports To: Operations Supervisor/Head of Operations
About Southside Blooms:
Southside Blooms is a unique, sustainable florist that creates jobs for at-risk youth through the production and sale of flowers grown on vacant lots. As a project of the nonprofit Chicago Eco House, our mission is to use sustainability to alleviate poverty. Every bouquet sold helps empower youth, beautify communities, and promote green practices in urban spaces.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and organized Assistant Operations Supervisor to support daily operations across our flower farm, production areas, and retail/delivery channels. This role requires a hands-on leader who is not afraid to get their hands dirty, mentor young team members, and help ensure the seamless execution of our farm-to-vase process.
Key Responsibilities:
Support Daily Farm Operations
Assist in managing youth florist schedules.
Coordinate with farm staff to ensure best practices in sustainable growing and fulfillment of wholesale orders.
Team Supervision & Mentorship
Provide guidance and support to youth employees and volunteers. Support onboarding of new hires.
Help maintain a positive, mission-driven work culture.
Ensure all staff adhere to safety and operational procedures.
Communicate concerns, changes, and updates daily with Operations Supervisor
Production & Fulfillment Oversight
Assist in managing retail bouquet production, packaging, and order fulfillment.
Track inventory of flowers, supplies, and materials.
Help coordinate local deliveries and retail events/pop-ups.
Administrative Support
Assist in tracking work hours, task completion, and performance metrics.
Support scheduling, record-keeping, and reporting as needed.
Assess performance and conduct issues, evaluate team and individual accomplishments
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
Help oversee upkeep of shop tools, vehicles, and workspaces.
Identify needs for repairs or improvements and coordinate solutions.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, or operations preferred strongly encouraged.
3-5 years of experience in management, especially with youth or diverse teams
Strong leadership and communication skills
A passion for urban farming, sustainability, and social impact.
Flexible, reliable, and highly organized.
Valid driver’s license (required).
Able to lift 40+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
