About the Role:

The PRN Hygienist plays a critical role in delivering exceptional dental care on an as-needed basis, ensuring patients receive thorough preventive treatments and oral health education. This position focuses on performing dental hygiene procedures such as cleanings, scaling, and polishing to maintain and improve patients' oral health. The hygienist collaborates closely with dentists and other dental team members to support comprehensive patient care and optimize treatment outcomes. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as the role requires filling in during peak times or staff absences while maintaining consistent quality of care. Ultimately, the PRN Hygienist contributes to a positive patient experience and supports the practice’s commitment to oral health excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid and current Dental Hygienist license in the state of Georgia.
  • Completion of an accredited dental hygiene program.
  • CPR certification.
  • Proven experience in clinical dental hygiene practice.
  • Strong knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, infection control, and patient care standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a PRN or flexible scheduling role.
  • Familiarity with electronic dental records (EDR) systems.
  • Additional certifications in local anesthesia or nitrous oxide administration.
  • Excellent communication skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • Previous experience in a multi-provider dental practice.
  • Experience with Dentrix.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform dental hygiene procedures including prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, polishing, perio charting, taking xrays, etc.
  • Conduct patient assessments, including reviewing medical histories and taking vital signs.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions.
  • Collaborate with dentists to develop individualized treatment plans and provide support during procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure infection control protocols and safety standards are strictly followed.
  • Manage scheduling and patient flow efficiently during PRN shifts to optimize care delivery.

The PRN Hygienist utilizes clinical skills daily to perform thorough cleanings and periodontal treatments that prevent oral diseases. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients on proper oral hygiene and motivating them to maintain healthy habits.
