Job Summary
The Life Skills Worker plays a key role in supporting the personal, social, and professional development of individuals within the Nak’azdli community. This position provides culturally grounded mentorship, coaching, and practical life skills support to empower individuals to achieve personal goals, strengthen independence, and enhance overall well-being.
The role works collaboratively with Elders, families, health professionals, educators, and community services to deliver holistic, strengths-based support that honours Indigenous values, traditions, and ways of knowing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Development & Life Coaching
- Provide one-on-one coaching and mentoring to support personal growth, confidence, and goal achievement.
- Develop individualized support and coaching plans tailored to each person’s needs, strengths, and aspirations.
- Assist individuals with decision-making, motivation, and overcoming personal barriers.
- Support goal setting, progress tracking, and accountability.
- Encourage healthy routines, self-awareness, and positive life choices.
- Life Skills Development
- Support individuals to develop daily living skills such as:
- Personal care and hygiene
- Cooking and nutrition
- Budgeting and money management
- Time management and organization
- Assist with social skills development, communication, and emotional regulation.
- Promote independence, self-reliance, and community participation.
- Support employment readiness, education goals, or community access where appropriate.
- Support individuals to develop daily living skills such as:
- Mentorship & Cultural Support
- Serve as a positive role model for community members, particularly youth.
- Provide emotional support through active listening and a non-judgmental approach.
- Incorporate traditional teachings, cultural practices, and Indigenous worldviews into coaching and support.
- Facilitate group sessions or workshops on topics such as confidence building, self-care, and communication.
- Support intergenerational knowledge sharing by connecting individuals with Elders and mentors.
- Holistic Wellness & Wellbeing
- Promote mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness using holistic approaches.
- Support individuals navigating life challenges such as family dynamics, substance use recovery, or relationship building.
- Organize or assist with wellness workshops (e.g., stress management, emotional resilience).
- Work closely with health and wellness teams and provide referrals to appropriate services when needed.
- Community Engagement & Collaboration
- Build positive relationships with families, schools, community organizations, and service providers.
- Promote life coaching and life skills programs within the community.
- Facilitate peer support groups or circles to encourage shared learning and mutual support.
- Participate in community meetings, cultural events, and planning sessions.
- Advocate for life skills and coaching services within broader community wellness initiatives.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of sessions, goals, and progress
- Prepare reports on participation, outcomes, and program effectiveness.
- Collect participant feedback to support continuous program improvement.
- Contribute to proposals or funding applications related to life coaching and mentorship programs.
- Ensure compliance with privacy, ethical standards, and organizational policies.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Diploma or Certificate III/IV in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work, Disability Support, Counseling, Education Support, or a related field (or willingness to obtain).
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in life coaching, mentoring, community support, or personal development roles.
- Life Coaching certification or relevant mentorship training.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of cultural traditions and community contexts.
- Knowledge of traditional healing practices and holistic wellness approaches.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel.
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Working Conditions
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work environments.
- Walking or standing approximately 75% of the time; seated work approximately 25%.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Moderate mental and visual demands, including computer use and documentation.
- Flexible hours may be required, including evenings or weekends.
Hours of Work
Your regular hours of work will be from 8:00am - 4:00pm for 7 hours per day from Monday to Friday and it is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours, however, you may be required from time to time to work outside your normal hours of work.
