RECREATIONAL AIDE at Family Service League Inc. – Riverhead, New York

SUMMARY

Family Service League is seeking a part-time Recreational Aide for our RECESS program in Bellport. The Recreational Aide will assist in providing therapeutic recreation to children ages 7-14. The Recreational Aide will be responsible for engaging in therapeutically appropriate activities with the children, providing individual support, and accompanying the driver for pickups and drop offs. RECESS operates for 26 sessions per year on Saturdays.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Recreational Aide will communicate with parents of children enrolled in the program.
• Accompany the transportation provider to pick up all confirmed participants at their homes.
• Engage with children during the program.
• Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of activities that are therapeutically appropriate for participants.
• The Recreational Aide will relate positively with other staff, supervisors, participants, and families.
• Complete all the required Agency training.
• Must be able to use video conferencing.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Must have at least 1 year experience working with children diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances, as well as knowledge of child development and emotional disorders presenting in children.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records, are required.

Candidate must have excellent engagement and communication skills and must enjoy working with children.

Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills required.

Valid and clean New York State Driver’s License required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically capable of getting on and off passenger van that is used for pickups and drop offs.
