About This Position
Make a splash in a leadership role where safety, teamwork, and community come together. The AYCC Aquatics Department is looking for a motivated and dependable Aquatics Team Lead to help oversee daily pool operations while supporting and leading a dynamic lifeguard team. In this role, you’ll work closely with Aquatics Directors to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-organized aquatic environment for members and guests of all ages.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create and manage the lifeguard schedule to ensure the department is appropriately staffed.
- Create daily lifeguard shift rotations.
- Provide at least 25 front-line hours each week, which may include coaching, lifeguarding, teaching swimming lessons, and/or instructing water aerobics.
- Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment necessary to meet State of Maine and Federal safety and inspection standards of pool operation.
- Conduct lifeguard staff audits at least once a week (rotating on selected employee) to ensure staff is adhering to all safety guidelines and responsibilities as an AYCC lifeguard.
- Conduct monthly staff in-service training.
WORK SCEHDULE: Full-time; 30-40 hours per week. Daytime, evening, and weekend work hours. Availability to work on weekends, as needed, and cover rotating managing shifts on the weekends.
Requirements:SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to lead coworkers by example, demonstrating respect and accountability.

- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to teach and lead through demonstration, teaching to all different styles of learning to promote and maintain an inclusive work environment.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified in Lifesaving, CPR/AED, and First Aid required.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred.
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification & Certified Pool Operator Certification preferred
- YMCA or USA Swim Coach Certification preferred
- Group Fitness Instructor certification or ability to become certified.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of lifeguarding required.
- Experience teaching Lifeguard courses and/or swim lessons is required.
- At least 1 year experience leading staff and/or teams is preferred.
