Overview

State Farm is seeking to add an experienced Lead Software Engineer to our Vehicle product team as part of our Personal Lines Auto Modernization effort. The overarching scope of this effort is to migrate away from our legacy systems and instead leverage Guidewire’s PolicyCenter product as our policy administration system. This team is responsible for managing the Vehicle screen inside of PolicyCenter, all the associated vehicle-related processing behind-the-scenes necessary to quote and bind transactions, and then various other vehicle-related business rules and capabilities. The logic this team owns is contained within PolicyCenter (written in Gosu) and then within our outbound integration service (written in Java) which receives and directs PolicyCenter requests to and from various downstream supplier services. This person would be coming into a critical role on a critical team on State Farm’s most critical work effort!

HYBRID: Qualified candidates will be residing within a 180-mile radius of our hub location will be classified as a Hybrid employee. In a hybrid work arrangement, you will be able to work remotely, with in-person expectations.

LOCATIONS: Bloomington, IL

Responsibilities
  • Development, testing, showcasing, and delivery of high-quality software in meeting business and/or technical requirements primarily related to state rollout scope and then also higher-priority enhancements
  • Regular partnership with business-oriented team members to better understand business requirements before, and throughout, the software delivery lifecycle
  • Engagement with fellow Software Engineers in establishing technical guidance and ensuring the team is adhering to it
  • Regular participation in team code reviews to ensure code accuracy, efficiency, and then build team member awareness of all software deliveries
  • When necessary, work with vendors for technical direction and solutions
  • Interact with other product teams at State Farm to drive solutions
  • Regular engagement with production support team members to help troubleshoot current issues and identify future technical improvements to our product


Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • 15 years deep experience with object-oriented programming languages (especially Gosu and Java)
  • Experience in delivering high-quality solutions in PolicyCenter and leading/guiding team members in doing the same
  • Deep experience with PolicyCenter outbound integrations and coordination of work with downstream supplier teams
  • Business and technical knowledge of Auto insurance

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience using industry tools, frameworks, and languages such as Java, J2EE, Spring Framework (Spring, Spring Boot, etc.), SQL, JavaScript, SOAP, REST, XML, WSDL, JSON, Splunk, Redis, LDAP, Vault, Swagger, React, Node.js, Spark, Python, etc.
  • Experience in delivering and maintaining solutions on the ROSA platform
  • Strong familiarity with CI/CD and test automation
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Works well within a team environment
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and seeks out ways to contribute beyond assigned responsibilities
  • Adaptability and learning agility in shifting between tasks or responsibilities due to changing business or technical needs

  • Potential starting salary range: $107,000 - $162,000
  • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience. High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
