About This Position

Description:

Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant plays a vital role in overseeing accounting operations across Pullman Market. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and external regulations.

Operational Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings for retail and restaurant operations
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, identifying variances and providing insights on performance trends
  • Create and distribute regular financial reports for executive leadership, highlighting KPIs specific to retail and food service operations
  • Analyze cost of goods sold, labor costs, and other operational metrics across locations

Operational Accounting

  • Manage weekly P&L reporting and consolidation
  • Oversee cash handling procedures and reconciliations across all locations
  • Monitor inventory accounting and valuation methodologies
  • Implement standard accounting procedures for both retail and restaurant operations
  • Ensure proper recording of gift card liabilities and revenue recognition

Compliance & Controls

  • Maintain internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations including sales tax, alcohol tax, and employment taxes
  • Work with external auditors during annual audits and reviews
  • Support SOX compliance requirements as applicable
  • Monitor PCI compliance for payment processing systems

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and train accounting staff including AP/AR, internal transfers, and payroll accruals
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for accounting team
  • Ensure cross-training and documentation of key accounting processes

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee the integration between POS systems, inventory management, and financial systems
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining accounting processes and reducing manual

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in retail and/or restaurant environments
  • Previous management experience supervising accounting staff
  • Multi-unit or multi-location accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP as applied to retail and restaurant operations

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills including financial modeling and pivot tables
  • Experience with restaurant POS systems and retail inventory management software
  • Knowledge of enterprise accounting systems

  • Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting financial information to non-financial audiences

Industry-Specific Knowledge

  • Understanding of key metrics in retail and restaurant operations (COGS, labor %, covers, sales per square foot, etc.)
  • Familiarity with inventory valuation methods for perishable and non-perishable goods
  • Knowledge of tip reporting requirements and alcohol licensing/taxation
  • Experience with multi-location retail/restaurant accounting best practices

Working Conditions:

  • A typical work week for this position is 40-50 hours. Hours may vary in season.
  • The majority of the day is spent on a computer.
  • Work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operates phones, computers, fax machines, copiers, and other office equipment.
