About This Position
The Rework Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and reworking defective electronic assemblies using soldering and de-soldering techniques. This role ensures that reworked products meet quality standards, reliability requirements, and customer specifications within a high-volume electronics manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform manual soldering and de-soldering of electronic components, including through-hole and SMT components on printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Execute rework and repair activities in accordance with work instructions, engineering guidelines, and IPC standards such as IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721.
- Inspect assemblies using microscopes, magnification tools, and test equipment to identify defects including cold solder joints, solder bridging, insufficient solder, or damaged components.
- Ensure compliance with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control procedures and safe handling practices for electronic components.
- Document rework activities within manufacturing systems (MES) and maintain traceability of repaired assemblies.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve recurring defects and support process improvement initiatives.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to quality issues.
- Maintain soldering tools, rework stations, and inspection equipment in proper working condition.
- Follow all company safety procedures, manufacturing standards, and operating procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification preferred.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in soldering, rework, or electronics repair within a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with SMT and through-hole soldering techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and assembly drawings.
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards for electronic assemblies.
- Knowledge of ESD control practices and safe handling of electronic components.
- IPC certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, or IPC-7711/7721.
- Experience working in high-volume electronics manufacturing environments (EMS, automotive, or consumer electronics).
- Familiarity with Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems or functional testing processes.
- Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Precision and strong attention to detail
- Manual dexterity and steady hand for micro-soldering tasks
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work under microscopes for extended periods
- Team collaboration and communication skills
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to soldering equipment and related fumes. Employees must follow safety procedures and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The role may require sitting or standing for extended periods and performing detailed work using microscopes and precision tools.
