Westerner Park is seeking a temporary full-time Landscaper – Summer Student (approximately 16 weeks) to join our dynamic team. The Landscaper – Summer Student plays an important role in maintaining Westerner Park’s outdoor spaces, ensuring they are safe, clean, and visually appealing for guests, clients, and events. This hands-on position supports grounds maintenance through lawn care, planting, and general upkeep, while also assisting with event operations as needed.
Under the direction of the General Manager, Facilities & Park Operations, the Landscaper – Summer Student is responsible for the following:
Grounds & Landscaping Maintenance:- Maintain lawns through mowing, mulching, aerating, dethatching, weeding, trimming, and edging around beds, walkways, and structures
- Plant and maintain annuals, perennials, shrubs, and other plant materials
- Ensure proper upkeep of planters, memorial benches, Harvest Gardens, and overall park grounds
- Prune trees and shrubs as required; haul and chip brush
- Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments
- Manage irrigation, nutrient application, and overall plant care
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities
- Assist with event setup and teardown as required
- Support janitorial tasks during events and peak periods
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall park operations
- Work is performed outdoors in varying conditions, including weather extremes, noise, and proximity to animals
- Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 75 lbs
- Schedule flexibility is required, including evenings and weekends, based on operational and event needs

- Previous landscaping or groundskeeping experience is considered an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 is an asset

- Must meet eligibility requirements for the Canada Summer Jobs Program
