About This Position
Job Summary:
Performs primary data abstraction duties for the Stroke Program and answers directly to the Stroke Program Manager. The data abstractor’s key responsibility is to collect and submit accurate, complete, and timely data into the Get with the Guidelines Stroke and Comprehensive Stroke registry. Demonstrates strong communication, documentation, organizing, and planning skills. Reports results of audits and identified trends to Stroke Program Manager to improve stroke care for appropriate units. Works closely with nursing, providers, and quality teams to ensure data integrity across stroke metrics.Role includes but is not limited to the following:
- Collects and abstracts data from all stroke patient medical records, especially those related to stroke care program. This includes information on diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and outcomes.
- Ensures the accuracy and completeness of the abstracted data. This involves cross-referencing information from multiple sources within a patient's medical record.
- Adheres to specific clinical data abstraction guidelines and standards, such as those set by the American Heart Association.
- Enters the abstracted data into a database or registry, often using specialized software. This includes maintaining and updating the data as necessary.
- Participates in quality assurance processes to ensure data integrity. This involves regular audits of the data or the abstraction process. Remains informed about developments in cerebrovascular care and data management to ensure ongoing competency in the role. Participates in data compilation for audits and (re)accreditation or site visits.
- Participates in stroke related committee meetings and events as necessary.
- Escalate data concerns or trends to the Stroke Program Manager.
- Remain current with changes in stroke measures, definitions, and abstraction rules.
In addition to the above, will have such other duties as are customary to the provision of the Services and assigned by Hospital from time to time.
Qualifications
Education and Skills:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Healthcare or clinical support experience preferred. Strong attention to detail, basic computer proficiency, and ability to interpret clinical documentation.
- Experience with Get With The Guidelines Stroke and Comprehensive Stroke within the last 2 years preferred.
- Familiar with medical records, billing/documentation practices, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with a daily dashboard update, and standard healthcare quality concepts.
- Ability to work independently.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan/accomplish goals.
- Maintains a strict level of confidentiality in all aspects of work.
- Demonstrates a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point preferred
Work Experience:
Clinical or healthcare experience preferred (ED Tech, patient care tech, unit clerk, quality tech, or similar). Epic EMR experience preferred. Certification/Licensure: BLS required within 30 days of hire. Mental Demands: Must have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines as well as possess good communication skills.Scan to Apply
