Student Nurse Intern - Nursing Support Team (NST)

Position Summary

This internship offers an exciting chance to learn directly from experienced inpatient nurses who are eager to teach and support your growth. As part of the care team, you’ll build hands on skills, assist with complex patient care, and gain exposure to both fast paced critical care and the meaningful, relationship driven world of nursing.

Position Responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with nurses to deliver holistic, patient centered care while gaining exposure to diverse and complex clinical situations.

  • Supports continuous evaluation of patient responses to treatment, communicating changes promptly and contributing to updates in the plan of care.

  • Engages in patient and family education, reinforcing treatment information, safety practices, and discharge instructions under RN supervision.

  • Demonstrates commitment to patient and personal safety by following established precautions, infection prevention practices, and safe handling procedures.

  • Promotes a safe and supportive environment by recognizing potential hazards, reporting concerns, and participating in safety focused interventions.

  • Communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team, contributing to smooth care coordination and positive patient outcomes.

  • Shows initiative, adaptability, and teamwork by responding to unit needs, seeking learning opportunities, and actively participating in skill development with RN mentors.

  • Investigate and implement evidence based strategies to reduce hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) in the intensive care unit, including conducting unit audits, evaluating current prevention practices, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Assess current in room supply storage practices in the intensive care unit, research best practice inventory management models, and provide recommendations to optimize organization, reduce waste, and ensure rapid access to critical supplies.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Eligible students between their junior and senior years at a 4-year nursing program or going into their last semester at a 2-year nursing program.
