About This Position
The Housekeeping Aide is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This position plays an essential role in infection prevention and overall resident well-being by ensuring cleanliness standards are consistently met throughout the nursing home.
SchedulePrimary hours: 6:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Hours per week: Approximately 32–35 hours
Weekend rotation: Work 1 weekend every 6 weeks
Clean and disinfect resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, and other facility spaces
Follow infection control procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies
Collect, remove, and dispose of trash and biohazard materials according to facility policies
Refill supplies such as soap, paper products, and disinfectants
Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply needs to supervisor
Follow established schedules, cleaning checklists, and facility policies
Work cooperatively with nursing, dietary, and other departments to support resident care
Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality at all times
Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Previous housekeeping or healthcare experience preferred, but not required
Must be able to meet physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and pushing carts
Must be able to pass a DHS Background Study
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
Exposure to cleaning chemicals with proper PPE
Nursing home / long-term care setting
Indoor environment with potential exposure to cleaning agents and bodily fluids
