About This Position

A Crew Leader is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the performance of tasks associated with day-to-day filed activity, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste cleanup, site remediation, and equipment decontamination. The role requires a commitment to safety, leadership, and the ability to foster a positive and encouraging work environment that aligns with AIS’s core values.

REPORTS TO: Regional Manager / Project Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: Those on your daily crew

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ensure all actions and decisions align with AIS’s core values: responding with urgency, delivering high-quality service, operating with integrity, and being a team player.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and RCRA requirements.
  • Ensure coverage for shifts when on call and communicate any necessary replacement details to the appropriate Regional Manager.
  • Set a positive example for the crew by modeling professional behavior and a good attitude.
  • Direct the work of crew members, ensuring they understand and meet project objectives.
  • Complete associated paperwork, including daily worksheets, manifesting disposal documentation, vehicle inspections, equipment inspections, and Health & Safety permits.
  • Be available for on-call duty during your assigned week, responding promptly to emergencies. This may require work during weekends and holidays.
  • Respond to and resolve problems that arise in the field, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
  • Operate light and heavy equipment, including pumps, vacuum equipment, high-pressure water systems, oil spill booms, generators, and bobcats.
  • Perform fieldwork and emergency response activities, including chemical and water spills, tank cleaning, and equipment decontamination.
  • Perform physical labor to include, but not limited to lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy objects.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Work closely with customer contacts and the AIS site manager to ensure project scope is clearly defined and objectives are met.
  • Conduct Pre-Job Briefs and prepare Job Safety Analyses (JSA) daily.
  • Act as a positive leader and encourager to all crew members, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Evaluate crew performance, providing coaching, training, and development opportunities as needed.
  • Embrace and promote an ownership mentality among crew members, understanding that each employee’s contributions are integral to the company’s success.
  • Actively foster a ‘Culture of CARE’ by treating all team members with respect, encouraging collaboration, and addressing any behavior that does not align with these principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience in an industrial field, with a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Proven experience and expert knowledge of Hydro Blasting, Vacuum truck / Vacuum excavation, Pump trucks, OSHA 30 training, and RCRA – DOT- Manifesting and Labeling.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a positive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Proficiency in the English language, with quality oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while effectively managing multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel as necessary (typically within a 4-hour driving distance).
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical exertion.
  • Ability to spend considerable amounts of time standing, walking, climbing, hoisting, and bending over.
  • Ability to lift 50-75lb.
  • Ability to work in an environment with potentially elevated noise levels and confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic, or corrosive.
  • Ability to withstand shifts that typically, but not always, exceed 8 hours.
