Nursery Worker
Holden Arboretum
Opportunity:
The Horticulture & Collections department seeks a seasonal nursery worker to work with nursery technicians, horticulturists and other team members to support nursery operations during the growing season. The Nursery worker will assist nursery staff in the activities of propagation, plant care, and other seasonal nursery activities in support of mission of HF&G.

Position Details:
- A great position for anyone looking for summer work to gain experience in nursery growing, plant propagation, or horticulture
- Seasonal role
- 23-week seasonal role, required
- Approximately April- September, flexibility in start date
- 40 hours per week
- Monday – Friday 7am – 3:30 pm, initially for training
- Tuesday - Saturday 7am – 3:30 pm, after training schedule
Key Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities of the Nursery Worker include, but are not limited to:
- Watering
- Pruning
- Weeding
- Propagation by seed and cuttings
- Mixing Soil
- Transplanting
- Staking
- Labeling
- Irrigation system maintenance
- Spraying pesticides after training
- Other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- Support Holden Forests & Gardens’ mission, vision, and values
- Demonstrate a passion for people and nature
- High school diploma, or equivalent, preferred
- Experience working with plants preferred
- Experience working outdoors preferred
- An interest in learning about or pursuing a career in nursery production or management
- Able to follow multistep directions
- Able to work well in a diverse team
- Able to work independently when needed
- An interest in working outdoors performing manual labor in all weather conditions
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products, specifically Teams, Outlook (email and calendar), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or the ability to learn
- Enjoy working with the general public and volunteers
- A valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record of less than 2 points or violations
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Effective vision and hearing
- Hand and arm dexterity
- Ability to climb ladders to accomplish tasks
- Ability to drive Holden Forests & Gardens’ vehicles and willingness to learn
- Walking and working on wet, uneven, slippery terrain
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs.
- Kneeling, bending, stooping, grabbing, and reaching
