Position Description

Middleton Place National Historic Landmark-

Middleton Place is America’s Oldest Landscaped Gardens and home to a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Located along the Ashley River in Charleston, Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark, Historic Home, Research Center, and Historic Plantation and Stableyards.

Position Summary-This position is for a dedicated custodian and event set up person who will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities and grounds. This position also includes the set up and breakdown of events on the property.

Reports to: Janitorial/Custodial Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous experience in janitorial services or event set up is a plus
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects as needed
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
• Excellent communication and teamwork
• Ability to work weekends and holidays

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

• This position involves working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
• Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Cleaning duties

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, maintain visitor areas, grounds, and event space regularly throughout shift
• Empty trash receptacles and manage waste disposal
• Perform routine maintenance and deep cleaning tasks as needed

Event Setup and Breakdown

• Assist in the set up and arrangement of furniture and equipment for events, including tables and chairs
• Break down and clean up event spaces after functions, returning items to storage as necessary
