Engineer V
Overview
Tech(x) is seeking a highly experienced Engineer V – Aerospace Systems & Autonomy to support advanced research, development, and system integration initiatives across air, space, and cyber domains. This position supports DoD and national security programs focused on resilient navigation, autonomous systems, satellite communications, counter-UAS capabilities, and space situational awareness.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in GNSS/PNT architectures, multi-sensor data fusion, autonomy, and aerospace guidance and control systems, along with experience leading advanced R&D programs and delivering operational capabilities to defense customers.
This role collaborates closely with government stakeholders, engineers, and program managers to develop innovative technologies that support mission-critical aerospace and defense applications.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Engineering
- Lead the design, development, and integration of advanced aerospace systems supporting navigation, autonomy, sensing, and communications architectures.
- Partner with government and contractor engineers to review technical requirements and develop system architectures aligned with mission objectives.
- Apply advanced modeling, simulation, and algorithm development techniques to support GNSS navigation, resilient PNT, cooperative autonomy, and satellite communications systems.
- Develop and evaluate multi-sensor fusion frameworks integrating EO/IR, RF, IMU, and environmental data for autonomous aerospace and counter-UAS missions.
- Support research and development of AI-enabled sensing, cooperative control, and distributed autonomous systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations of advanced engineering concepts and technologies.
Systems Architecture & Integration
- Design architectures supporting space situational awareness, satellite communications, and contested-environment sensing.
- Support development and testing of systems integrating GNSS, SATCOM, ISR sensors, radar, and autonomous control frameworks.
- Lead system-of-systems integration across airborne, spaceborne, and cyber environments.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, architecture diagrams, and system specifications.
Program Support & Collaboration
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting DoD research programs, SBIR/STTR initiatives, and advanced technology demonstrations.
- Provide technical leadership for multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting aerospace autonomy and sensing technologies.
- Present complex technical concepts to government stakeholders, engineers, and non-technical audiences.
- Support proposal development, technical roadmaps, and strategic technology initiatives.
Documentation & Technical Communication
- Develop technical reports, engineering documentation, and research publications supporting program objectives.
- Support technical briefings and presentations for program reviews, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
- Maintain engineering work definitions, processes, and technical standards supporting program execution.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated expertise in aerospace systems engineering, GNSS navigation, autonomous systems, or satellite communications technologies.
- Experience designing or implementing multi-sensor fusion, AI-enabled sensing, or autonomous control systems.
- Experience supporting DoD, NASA, or national security aerospace programs.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong analytical, research, and system architecture development skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with:
- Resilient PNT and GNSS navigation architectures
- Space situational awareness (SSA) systems
- Counter-UAS technologies
- Game-theoretic estimation or cooperative control frameworks
- AI/ML for aerospace sensing and autonomy
- Experience leading SBIR/STTR or advanced research programs.
- Experience supporting operational demonstrations and aerospace system field testing.
Clearance:
- Ability to obtain or maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Education & Experience:
- Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM field.
- 10+ years of experience supporting aerospace, defense, or advanced technology research programs.
- Experience leading technical programs or serving as Principal Investigator, Program Manager, or Chief Engineer supporting DoD or national security programs.
Location:
- Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.
- Monday-Friday. On site.
Travel:
Some travel.
