Reports to: Director of Religious Education

Employment Type: Part-Time, 33 hours per week

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay: $70,304 per year depending upon experience

St. Michael’s Catholic Parish is located in the city of Poway, CA and part of the San Diego Diocese. With approximately 3,500 registered families, this is an active parish that requires a Facilities Manager that can manage and properly communicate with the pastor, parish staff and community. This position requires a comprehensive knowledge in facilities administration, as well as, knowledge of Diocesan policies and procedures.

Job Summary

  • To manage and oversee maintenance and repairs for the rectory, church, school offices and classrooms, outer buildings, and parking lots (herein called “facilities”).
  • To provide a central focal point for the church facilities.

Duties (including but not limited to):

Management:

  • Manage contract oversight and execution for facilities upkeep including but not limited to, HVAC, window washing, carpet cleaning, floor waxing, grounds keeping, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, roofing, pest control, facility access through key distribution for ministries or events etc.
  • Provide direct supervision to any facilities staff and facilities volunteers
  • Work with Pastor, Pastoral Assistant, staff and other committees for budget planning, project prioritization and execution of facilities related projects, improvements, construction, and maintenance and repair expenses.

Facilities Coordination:

  • Ensures facilities are maintained in a manner that provides a healthy, safe and attractive physical environment.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule and perform or supervise facilities upkeep as needed on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis to reduce wear and tear or breakdown of systems
  • Performs minor maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities.
  • Performs minor repair work in the areas of plumbing, electrical, heating and carpentry when needed.
  • Performs minor construction, basic mechanical maintenance on buildings and equipment.
  • Arrange for inspection and servicing of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, kitchen appliances, etc. with readiness for fire and alarm inspections.
  • Performs maintenance and cleanliness of kitchens.
  • Responsible for setting up and taking down all church activities and events. Coordinates with church and school staff, event and ministry coordinators/liaisons to provide assistance associated with regular services and meetings, special events such as weddings, funerals, receptions, concerts, Christmas and Easter services, and any other special events that may occur.
  • Ensures that the facility is opened, closed and secured per staff duties.
  • Ensure upkeep for vehicles owned by the parish.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of products needed for building use and upkeep.
  • Meeting deliveries and escorting vendors to the appropriate room to unload bulk items.
  • Work as the representative of the Parish to the City of Poway, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Poway Fire Department regarding permits, licenses, and emergency matters.
Requirements:

  • 2 years of experience in a maintenance or similar position.
  • 2 years successful experience as a personnel manager preferred.

Skills

  • Must have knowledge of the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church.
  • Thorough knowledge of building operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Practical skill knowledge of structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry,roofing, painting, masonry, etc.
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; a multi-tasker with a sense of urgency in regards to projects.
  • Ability to supervise facilities staff and independent contractors, delegate and manage responsibilities.
  • Must be comfortable negotiating contracts.
  • Able and willing to work a flexible schedule based on church and school programs, functions and needs.
  • Ability to relate positively and effectively with staff, church and school leadership, volunteers and external contacts.
  • Long term solution oriented in regards to the upkeep and maintenance of facilities.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, and openly follow those safety practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in computer technology.
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee must perform moderate to heavy work in all types of weather, stooping, standing squatting, and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
