About This Position

Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The Utilities department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Supervisor, Utilities - Water. Reporting to the Utilities Superintendent, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly, 4 days a week, starting as soon as possible.

The Supervisor, Utilities – Water supervises the operations of the EOCP Level lV Water Distribution System, and EOCP Level l Water Treatment System assets. The position supervises and coordinates a team of operators, maintenance personnel, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure the water distribution system and water treatment system operate effectively, efficiently, within regulatory requirements.

Qualified candidates have completed, at minimum a two-year post-secondary program with at least 5 years managing water treatment and water distributions, and formally supervising staff. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience in water utility operations and maintenance environments may be considered.

Qualified candidates demonstrate excellent working knowledge of the technology and operation of municipal drinking water disinfection and distribution systems; comprehensive knowledge of all applicable national and provincial drinking water quality related regulations, standards, and guidelines; comprehensive knowledge of all applicable Laws, Regulations and By-Laws governing Occupational Health and Safety. Qualified candidates possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints, process diagrams and other engineering-related technical documents; strong computer software skills and comfort working with computer software and respond from time to time to situations or emergencies outside of normal working hours. Candidates must also be able to occasionally assist with heavy physical outdoor work at night, in very cold, very hot, snowy, or rainy conditions.

The successful candidate demonstrates strong leadership, supervisory and communication skills to clearly articulate direction and intents and is approachable and diplomatic with the strong ability to use analytical and research-oriented approaches to problem solving. The successful candidate also demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive environment. The starting wage for this position is $48.27 per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
