Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Safety Supervisor leads a team of Safety Advisors responsible for delivering health and safety support to operational departments at Pinto Valley Mine. This role provides safety guidance, coaching, and oversight to ensure effective implementation of safety programs, incident investigations, and risk management activities across the site.

The position works closely with operations leadership to address emerging safety needs, maintain regulatory compliance, and strengthen safety performance through consistent field engagement, training, and assurance activities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the work of Safety Advisors, ensuring clear priorities, performance expectations, and accountability.
Operational Support: Provide safety guidance, coaching, and support to operational departments through field engagement and regular coordination meetings.
Work Program Management: Develop and manage the team’s work program including safety coaching, communications, incident investigations, risk workshops, and safety initiatives.
Resource Planning: Ensure adequate safety staffing support for operations, projects, and shutdown activities.
Incident Investigations: Support and oversee incident investigations to ensure timely completion, quality analysis, and corrective actions.
Assurance & Audits: Plan and execute internal audits and assurance activities aligned with the site HSE management system.
Regulatory Inspections: Coordinate and host regulatory safety inspections and provide updates and reports to site leadership.
Team Development: Support the professional development of Safety Advisors through training, field coaching, and performance reviews.
Safety Reporting: Prepare reports on safety advisor activities, trends, and operational support as required by management.
Emergency Preparedness: Support development and testing of emergency response plans, drills, and crisis management protocols.
Safety Culture: Promote safety awareness, risk management, and environmental responsibility across the workforce.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

• Formal qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety leadership or supervisory role
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage small to medium projects
• Ability to adapt to changing operational needs and priorities
• Strong accountability and decision-making capability

Preferred

• Professional certifications in frontline leadership or safety management
• Experience in mining, energy, manufacturing, construction, or other high-risk industries

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Combination of office-based and field-based work in an active open pit mining operation
• Frequent presence in operational areas including plant and mobile equipment environments
• Walking on uneven ground and navigating industrial work areas
• Exposure to dust, noise, heat, and varying weather conditions
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in operational areas

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
