About the Position
The HR Generalist will play a critical role in supporting Kidspace’s people, culture, and organizational effectiveness. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for administering core human resources functions, including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, performance management support, benefits administration, compliance, and HR systems and processes. The HR Generalist will have the guidance and support of outside HR consulting services and legal counsel.
This role focuses on day-to-day administration while identifying opportunities to strengthen and streamline HR processes. The HR Generalist will work closely with department leaders to ensure that HR practices align with Kidspace’s mission, values, and commitment to equity, inclusion, and access.

Job Responsibilities
Administer core HR functions, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, offboarding, employee records, and HR data systems management. Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, benefits, payroll coordination, and general HR matters. Support performance management processes, including tracking timelines, coordinating evaluations, and assisting with employee development documentation. Assist with employee relations matters, escalating complex issues as appropriate and ensuring consistency and fairness. Coordinate recruiting efforts for full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions, including job postings, screening, and hiring logistics. Partner with hiring managers to ensure efficient, equitable, and compliant hiring practices. Support onboarding processes to ensure new employees are well-integrated and successful. Assist with benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and open enrollment processes. Maintain accurate records to support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour requirements and required trainings. Assist in maintaining and updating the employee handbook, HR policies, and procedures. Support initiatives that strengthen organizational culture, employee engagement, and retention. Maintain a strong understanding of and promote Kidspace’s mission and commitment to equity, access, and inclusion. Represent the organization professionally and collaboratively with staff at all levels. Perform other duties as assigned.Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3–5 years of progressively responsible HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. Comprehensive knowledge of California employment laws, local labor regulations, and HR workforce best practices, with the ability to ensure compliance, strategically advise leadership, and effectively manage employee relations, investigations, and policy administration. Experience supporting recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR systems. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information with integrity. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with HRIS systems and general comfort with technology. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and move throughout the Museum office and campus. Kidspace offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; generous paid time off; a 403(b) with employer match; and more. The annual pay for this role is $65,000-$72,000, depending on experience.
