PRN RN - Medical Oncology at Lima Memorial Health System – Lima, Ohio

Functioning within the Health Systems mission, values, objectives, and policies and procedures the Registered Nurse gives nursing care to patients seen in The Cancer Institute. This includes: accessing, planning, implementing, providing oncology biopsy consults, assist with oncology patient navigation, education on radiologic and pathologic findings for oncology patients; vascular port access and peripheral blood draws; assessing radiation oncology patients at the direction of radiation oncologist; making judgments based upon scientific knowledge and clinical skills. Responsibilities also include administering chemotherapy, and patient education on plans of care.

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN is preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Valid, unrestricted RN license for the State of Ohio. Current BLS required. ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course and certification required within 6 months of hire. ACLS required within one year of hire. Oncology Certified Nurse certification (OCN) preferred. Valid Ohio driver’s license with reliable transportation required.

Experience: One to three years’ experience specific to physician office practice or Health System preferred. Must have outpatient experience in either radiation or medical oncology. One-year Vascular port access and peripheral blood draws required. Experience with billing and coding preferred.

Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal and “customer service” skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must be able to multi-task and handle stressful situations. Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be able to cross train to both outpatient medical oncology and radiation. Must have knowledge of correct body mechanics. Knowledge of basic genetic counseling preferred.
