This role is a key leadership position within a specialty meat and/or seafood processing environment, ensuring the highest standards of food safety, regulatory compliance, and product quality. You will oversee the execution of robust FSQA programs, guide audit readiness initiatives, and supervise technicians to maintain compliance with federal and corporate requirements. Acting as a cross-functional partner to operations, sales, transportation, and maintenance teams, you will help protect brand integrity and consumer trust. From HACCP implementation to recall preparedness and supplier approval, your work will directly impact product excellence and operational reliability. This is an opportunity to lead in a fast-paced production setting where safety, accountability, and continuous improvement are paramount.
Accountabilities:- Supervise the implementation and continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) programs, including HACCP, sanitation SOPs, pest control, GMPs, foreign material control, food defense, and chemical management.
- Oversee plant sanitation standards and ensure regulatory compliance with federal food safety authorities (e.g., FDA/USDA as applicable).
- Lead and support internal and third-party audit programs, including Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification and other GFSI-aligned schemes.
- Manage recall and traceability processes, including mock recalls, ensuring rapid response capability and documentation accuracy.
- Supervise and train FSQA technicians and plant employees on food safety procedures, policies, and quality standards.
- Support supplier approval programs, product sourcing evaluations, and regulatory interactions.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to food safety and quality, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, transportation, maintenance, suppliers, and customers to uphold compliance and product integrity.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional formal training in quality management, HACCP, SPC, or regulatory compliance preferred.
- 15 years of experience in the meat and/or seafood industry within a processing environment.
- Direct FSQA experience in a federally regulated (FDA/USDA) food processing facility.
- HACCP certification (meat and/or seafood, as applicable).
- SQF Practitioner certification or experience with a recognized GFSI food safety scheme.
- Strong understanding of GMPs, sanitation programs, traceability systems, and audit readiness requirements.
- Ability to analyze data, define problems, interpret technical instructions, and implement corrective actions.
- Proficiency with computers, laboratory tools, and food production equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings to management.
- Valid drivers license.
- Ability to work in plant environments with exposure to cold temperatures, noise, mechanical equipment, and to lift up to 100 pounds when required.
