ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

POSITION SUMMARY:
Peer Leaders will assist the Youth Mentorship Specialist and Youth Fellows in designing a Youth Mentorship Camp experience that fosters cultural pride, identity development, and belonging among refugee youth through community-building and creative activities. Peer Leaders will have experienced or be familiar with refugee youth perspectives and lived experiences. They will represent their peers' viewpoints and advocate for experiences they believe will strengthen their community.
Two hours per week planning in April and May, 25-40 hours during Mentorship Camp until 7/2/26.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:- Meet weekly with Youth Mentorship Specialist to brainstorm and identify challenges and needs of refugee youth peers to be addressed through Mentorship Camp
- Assist in coordinating logistical details of Mentorship Camp (including but not limited to transportation plans, catering orders, materials and supplies, and scheduling)
- Research potential camp activities and field trips
- Accompany full-time staff in providing transportation for Mentorship Camp activities and/or provide transportation for student participants
- Facilitate communication between Youth Services staff and student participants
- Provide feedback on lessons learned and benefits/challenges of Peer Leader experience
- Other responsibilities as assigned

- Self-starter; strong initiative and development skills
- Strong desire to support peers' cultural adjustment, invest in community, and cultivate places of belonging
- Conversational English
- Ability to work with students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Ability to follow directions and finish tasks as assigned
- Strong preference for candidates who are fluent in at least one language spoken by a major refugee group in the Triangle (Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Burmese, Pashto/Farsi/Dari, etc.)
- Strong preference for candidates who have participated in Youth Mentorship or similar programs
- Valid license, access to reliable vehicle and clean driving record preferred.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
