Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support Federal projects and Department of Energy (DOE) clients. This role is responsible for applying systems engineering principles across the project lifecycle, including requirements development, integration, verification, and validation. The Systems Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure complex systems meet technical, operational, and regulatory requirements in highly regulated environments.
- Apply systems engineering methodologies across the full system lifecycle (concept, design, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment).
- Develop, manage, and trace system requirements, interfaces, and technical baselines.
- Support system architecture development, trade studies, and technical evaluations.
- Coordinate system integration activities across mechanical, electrical, software, and operational disciplines.
- Support verification and validation (V&V) planning, execution, and documentation.
- Identify and manage technical risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and compliance artifacts.
- Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and project planning activities.
- Collaborate with project management, quality, safety, and compliance teams to support Federal and DOE standards.
- Support interactions with clients, vendors, and regulatory stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 3-10 years of systems engineering experience supporting complex technical projects.
- Experience developing and managing system requirements and interfaces.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering processes and standards (e.g., INCOSE, ISO/IEC 15288, or similar).
- Experience supporting system integration, verification, and validation activities.
- Ability to analyze technical problems and develop practical, traceable solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in regulated or structured project environments.
- Successful drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of systems engineering experience, including leadership on complex or large-scale systems.
- Experience supporting Federal, DOE, DOD, or other government agency projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading requirements development, system architecture, and technical baseline management.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical teams.
- Strong background in system-of-systems engineering and complex integration efforts.
- Experience with formal design reviews, technical authority roles, or customer-facing engineering leadership.
- Knowledge of safety-critical or mission-critical system development.
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.
Location/Work Arrangement:
- This position is a fully onsite position in Oak Ridge, TN.
- Full time, Monday – Friday, 40-hour work week.
